Dental anxiety is a common phenomenon that affects millions of people regardless of their age, gender, or education level.
For some people, the very thought a dental appointment triggers anxiety. Others may have had a negative experience as a child that still affects them as an adult.
Whatever the reason for your fear, the team at Orland Oaks Dental wants you to know that, with sedation dentistry, you don’t just have to "endure" dental any more. Dr. Brian Walczak and his team are qualified to provide IV sedation and have the experience necessary to provide you with a dental visit that is more comfortable than you ever thought possible!
We know that patients who experience anxiety are more likely to put off dental appointments or avoid them altogether. The result is usually an increase in dental problems that become more complicated to fix the longer treatment is avoided.
Unfortunately, poor oral health affects other areas of your life as well. You may lose the ability to enjoy the foods you love because eating is uncomfortable. And damaged or missing teeth can make you self-conscious about your appearance, which can affect the way you interact with others.
Our goal is to eliminate all these problems by making your time with us comfortable and stress-free.
We want to build a trusting relationship with you so you feel comfortable sharing concerns with us. Everyone in our office is sympathetic to your feelings, and you may be surprised to find that just opening up to us will help minimize your anxiety. You can count on us to provide all the support and encouragement you need to help you relax.
Our care and concern for your complete comfort during procedures is important. But we know that you may need additional help to stay calm. That’s where safe and effective sedation dentistry comes in!
Nitrous oxide, often referred to as “laughing gas,” has been used to help patients relax for over a century. In that time, it has proven to be very effective for managing mild dental anxiety.
Patients at Orland Oaks Dental like nitrous oxide because it relaxes them without any lingering side effects. Sedation with nitrous will put you in a dreamy, detached state so the activity around you recedes into the background. The effects of nitrous oxide disappear quickly after treatment, and you will leave our office feeling great and ready to get on with the rest of your day.
Oral sedation is another effective option for patients with mild to moderate anxiety. Our doctors will prescribe an anxiety-reducing medication for you to take before you get to our office. This helps you get to our office without a lot of stress and keeps you relaxed throughout your procedure. If we choose this method, you will need to have a driver to get you to and from your appointment.
IV “Twilight” Sedation
We understand that some people would like to "go to sleep" for their procedure. That is why we offer patients the complete comfort of IV sedation.
With this method, you will remain awake and able to respond to questions; however, you'll be very sleepy and relaxed. Most patients do not remember the procedure or the short period of time following it. As with oral sedation, you will need a driver if you are planning on getting IV sedation.
If you have been putting off dental appointments because of anxiety, please give us a call. We’ll provide a comfortable experience free of stress so you can confidently get the care you need and feel good about it!
