Orland Oaks Dental
A Great Dentist

Dental technology is of value only when it allows us to perform treatments that make your visits more predictable, more efficient, and more comfortable. Many of the technologies we use at Orland Oaks Dental also allow you to play a greater part in the decision-making process.

After just one visit to our office, we think you’ll understand the important role that technology plays in your dental care. Below you will find some of the high-tech amenities we offer and how they will benefit your treatment and experience.

The team at Orland Oaks Dental is committed to providing you with compassionate dental care, which includes focusing on your comfort. We’ve chosen to use DentalVibe technology because it is a great tool that helps us provide you with the dental treatments you need without the usual discomfort associated with oral injections.

The DentalVibe is a handheld device that emits vibrations that block the sensation of pain in the area where an injection is being given. We have found that the use of DentalVibe technology greatly reduces patient anxiety by eliminating discomfort. In fact, when we use the DentalVibe, many patients don’t even realize they have received an injection! This technology is particularly useful for children as it allows them to experience dental visits that are pain free and comfortable.

Digital X-Rays

Many common dental issues start where they can’t be seen – like in between the teeth or under the gum tissue. The use of digital x-rays allows us to find these problems when they’re small, long before they cause discomfort.

Our patients also like the safety of digital x-rays because it uses significantly less radiation to produce these images than film x-rays. Some estimates say that digital x-rays reduce your exposure by as much as 80%!

Images produced by digital x-rays are so highly detailed that we can project them directly on our chair side monitors so you see exactly what we see. Our doctors can manipulate the image, make it larger or smaller, and even adjust the contrast so you can immediately see what the problem is and why treatment is necessary.

Digital images are stored securely in your patient record, making it easy to send them electronically to specialists and insurance providers when necessary. And because no chemicals are required to process digital images, they are actually better for the environment!

Panoramic X-Rays

Panoramic x-rays take highly detailed, two-dimensional images that include the teeth, upper and lower jaws, and surrounding structures and tissues in just one x-ray. The process is easy because we can take the image extra-orally (outside the mouth) without the need for bulky x-ray films placed in your mouth. Digital panoramic imaging is quick and comfortable and significantly reduces your exposure to radiation.

Intraoral Camera

Visual dental exams have always been the foundation for diagnosing problems, but with today’s technology we are able to go one step further. Intra-oral camera images are beneficial because they make it possible for you to “co-diagnose” your dental concerns with your doctor. These cameras, which are about the size of a pen, allow you to see exactly what the doctor sees through his/her magnifiers, except they can be enlarged and displayed on the TVs in your treatment suite!

You can see exactly what we’re seeing, which makes you an active participant in your treatment. When you can see the problem for yourself you will be able to make a more confident decision about your treatment.

Laser Dentistry

Treatment with lasers benefits people who are anxious about dental procedures because it’s faster, safer, and more conservative than traditional dental techniques.

For more complex cases of periodontal disease, soft tissue laser treatment is comfortable and effective. Using dental lasers to kill bacteria is an advanced approach for treating periodontal disease. Since lasers are less invasive than traditional methods, you will experience faster healing times and an easier recovery. Laser dentistry can also relieve the pain of cold sores and fever blisters as well as remove oral growths.

Nitrous Oxide

Do you get stressed out about dental visits? If so, don’t worry. Studies indicate that up to 15% of Americans suffer from dental phobia. That’s over 30 million people!

Fortunately, dentists have learned ways to help fearful patients obtain necessary dental care and maintain good oral health. Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective calming gas that’s mixed with oxygen. It is administered through a small tube that sits comfortably on your nose. As you breathe normally, you will start to relax.

The objective of nitrous oxide is not to put you to sleep. The goal is short-term relaxation, which lasts only long enough to help you stay calm during your procedure. You will feel drowsy, dreamy, and slightly detached from your surroundings. However, you will also be alert enough to listen to and respond to questions from your dentist and team. Our team is trained to safely administer nitrous, and a member of our team will monitor you throughout your appointment.

One of the things our patients particularly like about nitrous is that there are no lingering side effects. When the gas is turned off, any drowsiness dissipates quickly. You can return to work or school, and you do not need a driver to get you to and from your appointment.

TVs in Treatment Rooms

Over the years, we’ve been able to give peace of mind and establish trusting relationships with patients who are apprehensive about dental visits. However, the truth is we don’t know many people who actually get excited about spending time with us.

At Orland Oaks Dental, we make your comfort our number one priority. Although dental care is essential to a healthy smile, it doesn't have to be essentially stressful! That’s why we do whatever we can to make your time with us as enjoyable as possible.

When you are under our care, we encourage you to do whatever it takes to stay comfortable. If you like to listen to music, we have it playing in each treatment suite. We even have TVs and headphones in each suite to allow you to watch your favorite shows during your procedure. You’d be surprised how quickly an appointment can go with a little visual distraction!
